Bamsawali

Terms of Use

These terms are the rules for using Bamsawali. Bamsawali has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. By signing up, logging in or using the app, you agree to these terms.

1. Agreeing to these terms

Bamsawali (वंशावली) is a community genealogy platform for Nepali families, operated by brihatech, Nepal. These terms apply to the Bamsawali mobile app, the website at www.bamsawali.com, and the Samaj administration portal.

You must agree to these terms before you sign up or log in. If you do not agree, do not use Bamsawali. Our Privacy Policy and our Child Safety Standards are part of these terms.

2. Who can use Bamsawali

  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
  • Bamsawali is built for members of a Samaj (a community). The administrators of each Samaj approve who joins it.
  • A guest can use the app without joining a Samaj. A guest sees only demonstration family data and posts from our official Bamsawali page.
  • You cannot use Bamsawali if we have removed you from the platform before.

3. Your account

  • You sign in with a phone number, a Google account or an Apple account. Give us true information about yourself.
  • Keep your account to yourself. Do not let another person use it, and do not use someone else’s account.
  • Do not pretend to be another person, a Samaj, or Bamsawali.
  • You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else is using it.

4. Zero tolerance for objectionable content

You must not post, upload or share:

  • Harassment or bullying — insults, threats, intimidation, or attacks on a person.
  • Hate — content that attacks people for their caste, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other personal identity.
  • Sexual content — nudity, pornography, or sexual content of any kind. Any content that sexualises a child is reported to the authorities (see our Child Safety Standards).
  • Violence — threats of violence, graphic violence, or content that encourages violence, self-harm or terrorism.
  • Private information — another person’s phone number, address, documents or private photographs, shared without their permission.
  • False information — content that you know is false and that can harm a person, a family or a community.
  • Spam and scams — advertising, repeated posts, fake offers, or attempts to get money or passwords from people.
  • Illegal content — anything that breaks the law, or that uses another person’s work without their permission.

5. The Feed

The Feed in the Community tab is not open to the public. Who can see and do what depends on your place in a Samaj:

  • Guests see only posts from our official Bamsawali page. They can like and share those posts.
  • Samaj members see Bamsawali posts and posts from their own Samaj. They can like, comment on and share posts.
  • Approved posters are members whom their Samaj administrators have approved. Only they can create posts, and their posts are shown only to members of the same Samaj.

Samaj administrators can remove any post or comment in their Samaj, turn off comments on a post, and take away a member’s right to post.

6. Content you share

  • You keep ownership of what you add to Bamsawali. You give us permission to store it and to show it to the people who are allowed to see it, so that the app can work.
  • Family records are shared with your Samaj. Other members may add to or correct them, and a Samaj administrator may change or remove them.
  • You are responsible for what you post. Only share content that you have the right to share, and only share photographs of other people when they agree.

7. Reporting and blocking

Report. Every member post and every comment has a Report option in its menu (⋯). Choose a reason — spam, hurtful or abusive, false information, private information, or other — and send it. You can also report anything by email to [email protected].

Block. You can block a member from the same menu. Their posts and comments disappear from your Feed at once. You can see the people you blocked, and unblock them, in Settings.

8. What we do about violations

When you break these terms, we can do one or more of these things, with or without a warning:

  • Remove the content.
  • Take away your right to post or comment.
  • Remove you from a Samaj.
  • Suspend or close your account.
  • Stop you from creating a new account.
  • Report you to the authorities when the law requires it.

9. Samaj administrators

Samaj administrators manage the members, family records and Feed of their Samaj. They must follow these terms, and they must act on reports about their Samaj. A Samaj can set stricter rules for its own community, but it cannot set looser ones. When an administrator misuses their access, we can take that access away.

10. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app, in Settings → Delete account, or from our account deletion page. Family records that you added to a Samaj tree can stay in that tree, as our Privacy Policy explains.

11. Our service and its limits

  • We work to keep Bamsawali available and correct, but we provide it “as is”. We cannot promise that it will always work or that every family record is correct.
  • Members and Samajs add most of the content. We are not responsible for content that other people post, but we act on it when it breaks these terms.
  • As far as the law allows, brihatech is not liable for indirect loss that comes from using Bamsawali.

12. Changes and governing law

We may change these terms. The date at the top of this page shows the version in force. When a change is important, we tell you in the app. If you keep using Bamsawali after a change, you agree to the new terms. The laws of Nepal govern these terms.
