Delete your account

Request deletion of your Bamsawali account and the personal data attached to it. You do not need to open the app, and you do not need an account to ask.

Last updated 28 September 2026

1. What deletion removes

When we complete a full account deletion, the following is removed from Bamsawali:

  • Your account and its sign-in identifiers — phone number, email address, and the link to your Google account.
  • Your profile: your name, gender, dates, gotra and thar as recorded on your own profile, and your profile photograph.
  • Photographs you uploaded.
  • Your conversations with the AI assistant.
  • Your Samaj and Kul Samiti memberships, and any pending membership or registration applications.
  • Your device notification tokens, so we stop sending you notifications.
  • Your personal tree — the private tree visible only to you — and its contents.
  • All active sign-in sessions on every device.

2. Records shared with your Samaj

Bamsawali holds one thing that is not solely yours: the entries in a shared Samaj tree. A person record you created for a grandparent, or a marriage you recorded, may be the link that connects other families' lineages — removing it would break their trees as well as yours.

So when you send a request, tell us what you want to happen to those shared entries. We will review the request with the Samaj that holds them and write back to you with exactly what we will remove and what, if anything, will remain before we act. Nothing is deleted until you have that confirmation.

Your own person record is not in this category. Your entry is unlinked from your account as part of deletion, and you can ask for it to be removed outright.

3. Alternatives to deleting

If deletion is not quite what you want, these may serve you better and are available immediately in the app:

  • Turn off notifications — in the app's settings or in your device settings.
  • Correct a record — edit your own profile, or raise a dispute on an entry someone else created about you.
  • Remove a single photograph or one field, rather than the whole account. Choose "Delete specific data only" in the form below.
  • Change your phone number instead of starting over with a new account.
  • Simply sign out. Your data stays as it is, and nothing further is collected from your device.

4. Send your request

Fill this in and your email client will open with the request prepared. Send it from the email address on your account where you can — it helps us verify the request is genuinely yours. If you would rather not use the form, write to [email protected] with the same details.

What would you like us to delete?

The number you sign in with. Leave blank if you use Sign in with Google.

Required if you signed in with Google.

Optional, but it helps us find the right account.

Anything else we should know. Optional.

5. What happens next

  • Within 7 days — we acknowledge your request and, if we cannot match it to an account, ask you to verify the phone number or email address on it.
  • Before we delete anything — we confirm in writing what will be removed and what, if anything, remains as part of the shared community record.
  • Within 30 days — deletion is complete and we confirm it to you. Backups and server logs are purged on their own schedule shortly afterwards.
